Sewage Cleanup and Restoration after Storms

Sewage Backup and Contaminated Water

Sewage backup produces contaminated water, which requires proper training and equipment.  SERVPRO of Northeast Collin County / Greenville is the company you can trust and will inspect the contaminated water and plan the appropriate action to safely restore your home or business.

It is important you, as a home or business owner, understand the different types of contaminated water:

Category 1: “Clean Water”

This water is from a clean source. It can either be a broken water line or faucet; it should not be left untreated. If the issue isn’t resolved the water can degrade to category 2 or 3 based on factors such as time, temperature, and contact with contaminates.

Water from a broken water pipe, that is not attended to quickly can degrade into Category 2 or 3 water contamination.

Category 2: “Gray Water”

Gray water has a significant amount of contamination that may cause illness or discomfort if ingested. Category 2 may include washing machine overflow, dishwashing machine overflow, or urine from toilet overflow (no feces).

Gray water can possibly contain bacteria and viruses and can degrade into Category 3.

Category 3: “Black Water”

Black water is unsanitary and the most dangerous because it can contain untreated sewage, strong chemicals, and microbes, which have the potential to cause serious illness or death. Category 3 may include water from flooding rivers, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl (with feces), and from standing water that has microbial growth.
