Steps to Hail Damage Mitigation

Here are some important steps to consider and remember before hail strikes.

It is not a question of when will hail strike your home, but when will it happen.  You cannot worry about it all the time, but there are things you can do in advance to minimize some of the potential damage.  It is important to not worry about the things you cannot control, like when and the size of the hailstones.  Appropriate preparation ahead of time can help reduce damage and save you money.

Trim Trees and Shrubs

Loose or dead branches, from trees and shrubs, can fall and damage the roof or windows of your home.  Reduce the risk by keeping trees and shrubs trimmed and away from your home.  Additionally, any limbs that have fallen should be removed so they do not become flying objects in a strong wind.

Cover Over Areas

Cover any objects or areas you deem worth protecting. If roof damage has already occurred, cover over the affected area.  A tarp or plywood is good for protection.  The extra material can provide a layer of protection against possible hail as well as help prevent additional moisture from getting in.

Close All Windows

If hail is predicted, close and ensure all windows in your home are closed and secure.  This can help prevent hail from bouncing inside and causing additional damage.
